It is not necessarily everyday that a new type of filter enters the synthesizer market. This is not one of those days as nothing about this is particularly new but it is  certainly non-standard. The FERAL FILTER brings the power of switched capacitor filters into the modular domain. Whether or not this is a good thing can be debated.
 
Switched capacitor filters are digitally controlled analog filters and they allow for much more  exotic controllable filters than can be achieved trough conventional analog circuits. For some of these filter topologies, due to fancy math, one can apply phase inverted feedback which yields something different from the standard ringing resonance.
 
The nature of switched capacitor filters comes with some drawbacks such as limited bandwidth (10 or 15kHz) and the more exotic topologies have a lot of ripple. The modulating clock frequency also creates some aliasing, this is not audible under "normal" operation but when feedback is cranked unreasonably high and the modulating clock is in the audible range it is very audible. And the modulating clock has a ratio of 1:100 so it does not generate a pleasant overtone. It is what it is and it is not for audiophiles.
 
FOR THE MAX7400 VERSION
This version comes with the MAX7400 chip which is an 8:th order elliptic filter. This filter has an 82dB/oct attenuation which is 794 times more than a Moog ladder filter, so essentially a brick wall. The rolloff is so sharp that if you feed in a square wave and sweep the cutoff you can hear the discrete sine components of the square wave come in.
 
The elliptic filter has a lot of ripple both in it's passband and in it's stop band and it will under conventional feedback ring instantly, the filter can totally be used as a sine wave oscillator. But due to the high order of the filter it is stable with inverted feedback. This kills the ringing at the cutoff and creates some interesting distortion.
